For nine months I didn't have to leave the house at the crack of dawn each Sunday and search Mid Michigan for the one copy of the Free Press that hadn't been snatched up by the extreme couponers by 7 AM. For nine months I didn't have to do the week-old version of the puzzle that appears in the Detroit Free Press and risk being ridiculed by my fellow cruciverbalists when I'd join the discussion boards online a week late. Instead I will spend my time in quiet reflection and consider what a blessing it has been to have that subscription in my life for the last nine months or so. I think it's self-explained: I refuse to be sad, on this most joyous of days, about the apparent loss of my magical, mysterious, anonymously-given subscription to the Sunday New York Times (and thus the NY Times Sunday crossword). I thought you might like my Facebook post from Sunday. I poked my pencil thru the X's and turned back to the crossword -where all the words I couldn't fit now fit fine if you assumed the hole was the letter X. When I did, I looked through the paper and saw the X's line up with the grid. Solve it and arrange X marks on the page. I turned back to the puzzle that was on the back of the page with crossword. I double checked the instructions and it said if it was seemingly too difficult to go solve other puzzles and come back, which was odd. One of them was really vexing me -I knew I had the right answers to this crossword but they just werent fitting on the grid.
